Victor's Story

"You can carve your own niche in golf. If you have a passion for the sport and looking at it as a career option, it’s very rewarding.”

Victor Jacinto, from college to a career in golf

“I planned to go to Arizona State University to get a business degree when a friend convinced me to try out for a junior college golf team with him. The coach said I should play golf and that he’d pay for my school. I had never even played a tournament before then, but it ended up being one of the best choices I ever made. That’s where I really fell in love with the game.

I transferred to ASU the next year and started working at country clubs while going through the PGA Golf Management University Program at the W.P. Carey School of Business. It enabled me to get the business degree I originally wanted to pursue and my PGA credentials at the same time.

What many young people don’t understand about working in golf are all the career opportunities there are to explore. You can work on a course, in an instructional facility like GOLFTEC, at a company like Callaway or even as a professional caddy. You can carve your own niche in golf. If you have a passion for the sport and looking at it as a career option, it’s very rewarding.”
